The Golden Rule for the next 2,000 years

By Kim Michaels

Billions of people – Christians and non-Christians – have been inspired by Jesus’ teaching about turning the other cheek and his call,

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them. (Matthew 7:12)

Or as more commonly paraphrased:

Do unto others, what you want them to do to you.

We might consider this Golden Rule to be the defining statement for the past 2,000 years, which many people call the Age of Pisces. Yet is it possible that this statement has now been replaced by a new Golden Rule, a rule that will guide us in the next 2000-year period, also known as the Age of Aquarius? The following article will answer that question.

Spiritual cycles
Many spiritually open-minded people see Jesus as the main spiritual Master, the spiritual hierarch, for the Age of Pisces. Yet many people also realize that there is a forward movement in the spiritual life of humankind, and this movement follows certain cycles that are bigger than the opinions and interpretations of any one group or religion. Thus, we are now moving into the next 2000-year cycle, namely the Age of Aquarius.

As Jesus explains in an important discourse, every spiritual cycle, every age, presents an opportunity for spiritual growth. It also presents us with certain lessons or initiations that we must pass before we can move into the consciousness of the next cycle. During the Age of Pisces, humankind was meant to learn that the universe works according to God’s laws, both material and spiritual laws. We were meant to learn that when we understand these laws, we can use them to enhance our lives, both materially and spiritually.

The evolution of science clearly shows that by understanding the material laws, we can produce a tremendous improvement in our material lives. Unfortunately, we have not seen a similar expansion in our understanding of the spiritual laws, and therefore we have not been able to improve our spiritual lives in step with the evolution of science. Among the clear signs of this is that so many people have abandoned religion and that so many struggle with depression and a sense that life has no purpose or meaning. Other signs are that science itself has become devoid of morals, struggling with issues such as cloning and threatening to destroy us through pollution and increasingly destructive weapons of war.

This rift between our material and spiritual lives was caused by the war between science and religion. This war created a chasm between our approach to material and spiritual laws, making it difficult for us to combine the two in a meaningful way. By taking an unbiased look at history, it becomes clear that the main cause of this problem is that the Christian religion took the love-based teachings given by Jesus and turned them into a fear-based religion. Thus, orthodox Christianity has sought to control our understanding of spiritual law instead of helping us expand that understanding.

Yet it is not the purpose of this article to place blame. The purpose is to explain that there is a way out for those who are willing to open their minds to a higher understanding of Jesus’ teachings, especially the call to do unto others as you want them to do to you.

The universe is a Mirror

What was Jesus trying to tell us when he told us to do unto others what we want them to do to us? Is it possible that he was describing one of God’s spiritual laws and instructing us in how to make use of that law?

On this website, and especially in the book Save Yourself, Jesus explains that God has created a universe that acts like a mirror. Therefore, whatever we do to others, the universe will inevitably mirror back to us. You might say, “Where is that in the Bible?” Well, aside from Jesus’ statement about doing unto others, how about these quotes:

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Galatians 6:7)

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.
(Hosea 8:7)

We find very similar concepts in almost every religion. For example, Eastern religions contain the concept of karma, which basically means that whatever you send out will be returned to you at some point in the future. We even find a parallel in science, namely the law of action and reaction, which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Albert Einstein discovered several principles that can help us understand this facet of the universe. His theory of relativity proves that everything, including “solid” matter, is made from energy. This means that everything we do is done with energy. Every thought, feeling and action generates an energy impulse that is sent out into the universe. Einstein also discovered that the visible universe is only the tip of the iceberg, and beyond it is a deeper reality, which he called the “space-time continuum.” Einstein speculated that if we travel into space and keep going in the same direction, we will eventually return to our starting point from the opposite direction. In other words, the space-time continuum forms a closed loop, so any energy impulse we send out will eventually be returned to its point of origin by the universe.

When we put these ideas together, we see that Jesus’ statement was meant to help us make use of one of the fundamental laws of the universe. In essence, Jesus was telling us that we create our own reality, and it is up to us whether we want our reality to be hell on Earth or heaven on Earth.

We are co-creators

On this website, Jesus explains that God created us to be co-creators with him. That is why Genesis states:

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion . . . (Genesis 1:26)

The inner meaning is that we have the capacity of consciousness to create by using God’s energy. We create through the power of our minds, and whatever we focus our attention upon, we will inevitably create in our world. So if we always focus on the negative portents, we will experience those portents. In other words, through our thoughts we become self-fulfilling prophecies. Here is how Jesus explains it in Save Yourself:

The simple fact is that God has created a universe that acts like a mirror. You are living in the center of your personal house of mirrors. You are literally the center of your own personal universe, and it will reflect back to you whatever you send out.

If you want the universe to smile at you, you must first smile at the universe. Unfortunately, most people . . . are sitting in the center of their personal house of mirrors, and they are waiting for the universe to smile at them. They have adopted the attitude that they either will not or cannot smile at the universe until the universe smiles at them.

In other words, they have allowed themselves to become trapped in a state of consciousness in which they believe they have no control over their own situation and their own destiny. They believe their happiness and well-being depends on external factors over which they have little or no control. They believe the universe is too big and powerful to be affected by their thoughts, their world view, their attitude and their state of consciousness.

In reality, the universe is made from God’s energy. Energy is a passive substance that can take on any form. Yet energy cannot take on form by itself. To take on form, energy must be acted upon by the active force of a self-conscious mind. Therefore, if you wait for the universe to smile at you before you are willing to smile at the universe, you have completely misunderstood the most basic fact about life in this world.

The basic fact is that human beings have the capacity of consciousness to affect God’s energy. Because of that capability, you are the author and finisher of your own destiny. You create your own situation; you make your own bed and you will inevitably have to lie in it.

The simple fact is that most people aren’t happy about their lives, and they think they are unhappy because their outer conditions do not live up to their expectations about life. Therefore, they reason that they cannot be happy until the outer situation changes. They think that if only certain conditions were different, they would automatically be happy. Yet because of what I have just explained, this is taking a backward approach.

If you want your outer situation to change, you must begin by changing your inner situation because the universe can reflect back to you only what you send out. If you want the universal mirror to show you a smiling face, you must first smile at the universe.

The way out of human suffering

We now see that the Golden Rule was meant to teach us that we create our own reality, and we do so through the power of our minds. If we want to change what the universe mirrors back to us, we have to begin by changing what we send into the cosmic mirror.

How can we change what we send into the universe? The obvious answer is that our outer situation is a reflection of our state of consciousness, and therefore the way out of suffering is to change our consciousness. When you consider Jesus’ teachings in the Bible, you will see that everything he said was aimed at helping people change their consciousness: Do unto others as you want them to do to you, resist not evil, love your neighbor as yourself, forgive seventy times seven and so on. Everything Jesus said was meant to teach us how to move out of a state of consciousness dominated by fear and into a state of consciousness dominated by love.

If we fear loss, the universe has no other option than to reflect loss and lack back to us. If we love God, love ourselves, love other people and love life, the universe will inevitably reflect that back to us. This leads us to the conclusion that if our lives are not filled with love, the cause is that our consciousness is not filled with love, our hearts are not filled with love. As the Bible says,

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)

Almost every religion known to man contains the concept of a fall. On this website, Jesus explains that the Biblical story of the Fall is a symbol for what has happened to every soul. We have all fallen into a lower state of consciousness, and that is why our minds are dominated by fear. This fear springs from the fact that we have separated ourselves from our spiritual source, meaning our spiritual selves and God. (This is explained in more detail in the description of your true identity.)

The truth is that when we fall into a state of fear, we no longer live up to our true potential, which is to be co-creators with God. We are still co-creators, but we are no longer creating in accordance with God’s laws, first of all the law of love. Therefore, we send out imperfect energy impulses, energy that is qualified with the lower vibrations of fear, anger, hatred, envy and so on. When these energies are returned to us by the universe, we experience suffering.

Over thousands of years, humankind has collectively created the current limitations and suffering found on this planet. In other words, God did not create our misery, and he has no desire to see us continue to suffer. Contrary to some religious teachings, our misery is not God’s punishment. If you jump out from a tall building and kill yourself, your death is not God’s punishment. It is the impersonal effect of a natural law, namely gravity. Likewise, our current misery is not God’s punishment. It is the impersonal effect of a universal law, namely that the energy we send out will be mirrored back to us by the universe.

The bad news is that our current suffering and misery can continue indefinitely. It will continue until we change our consciousness. The good news is that we do have the capacity to remove all suffering, both from our personal lives and from the entire planet. We can do so by changing our consciousness.

God designed us as co-creators, and, in a sense, we are always co-creating. If we co-create from a fear-based frame of mind, we create limitations, pain and suffering. Yet if we transcend that fear and attain a love-based frame of mind, we can co-create God’s kingdom on Earth. This is what God wants to see for us, and that is why Jesus came to Earth. Jesus came to show us how to transform our state of consciousness so we can stop co-creating suffering and instead co-create God’s kingdom. Think about Jesus’ saying:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. (John 14:12)

Imagine yourself trying to walk on water. It will probably seem utterly impossible. Yet why does it seem impossible? It seems impossible because you are currently in a limited, fear-based state of consciousness. Yet Jesus clearly told us that we have the capacity to do the same works that he did. So the logical conclusion is that Jesus could do what he did because he had transcended the fear-based state of consciousness. And he came to show us that we too can come up higher in consciousness. Paul had understood this, and that is why he said:

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:5)

As mentioned earlier, orthodox Christianity took the love-based teachings given by Jesus and turned them into a fear-based religion. The fear-based doctrines of Christianity portray Jesus as an exception rather than as an example. They try to make us believe that Jesus was the only one who could attain Christ consciousness because he was the only son of God. In reality, Jesus told us we can do what he did, and the reason is that we came from the same source from which Jesus came. Jesus specifically stated:

33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
(John Chapter 10)

Jesus also said:

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Matthew 25:40)

Doesn’t it sound like Jesus thinks we are all his brethren, meaning that we are all sons and daughters of God? If you doubt this, consider these quotes:

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (John 1:12)

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:14)

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. (2Corinthians 6:18)

To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (Galatians (4:5)

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (Galatians 4:6)

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world. (Philippians 2;15)

Your true potential

If you put all these things together, you will see the big picture. You are not a limited, mortal human being, and you are not a sinner by nature. You were created as a son or daughter of God and your soul came to Earth to be a co-creator with God and to help bring God’s kingdom into manifestation on this planet. This is truly your personal potential, but it is also a planetary potential in the next 2000-year cycle, the Age of Aquarius. The true potential is that a critical mass of people will acknowledge their true identity and vow to manifest their full potential, thereby bringing a better age, a golden age, into manifestation.

If this is your purpose for being on this planet at this time, you will know so deep within your heart. If you will make an effort to still the outer mind, the fear-based mind, you will indeed hear the inner voice telling you why you are here at this crucial turning point in Earth’s history. You are here to help bring about a large-scale spiritual awakening that will forever raise the collective consciousness to a higher level, a level from which there is no going back.

How can you fulfill this potential, how can you rise above the limitations that are boxing you in right now? You can do so by seeing Jesus as an example and by making a vow to follow in his footsteps. You can then begin to walk a systematic path by using the teachings and the spiritual tools given on this website. This will gradually, but surely, bring you closer to Christ consciousness, and then you will one day say with Jesus:

I and my Father are one. (John 10:30)

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
(John 5:17)

When you attain the Christ consciousness, you can do the works that Jesus did. Or rather, God can do the same works through you that God did through Jesus. You will then no longer be a mortal, human being. You will be here on Earth the spiritual being that you already are in Heaven. You will be here below, all that you are above.

Everything goes in cycles. During the Age of Pisces, humankind was meant to learn about God’s laws, including the law that the universe is a mirror. Yet in the Age of Aquarius we are meant to take our understanding of God’s laws to a higher level. We are meant to no longer passively follow those laws but learn how we can actively use them to co-create God’s kingdom on Earth. That is why the saying to “Do unto others, what you want them to do to you” is not the defining statement for the new age. Instead, Jesus has given us a new statement that is the Golden Rule for the Age of Aquarius. It is:

Be here below, all that you are Above.

When you fully understand and internalize this new Golden Rule, you will have risen above human suffering and limitation. When a critical mass of people, the most spiritually mature people, internalize this rule, the Earth will be raised above human limitations and suffering. We will then see the manifestation of a better age, a golden age.

If you are one of the many souls who have a deep inner longing to see this better age, if you have a sense that you are here to help co-create this better age, then you have come to the right place. This website contains teachings and tools that can help you make the Golden Age a reality, both in your personal life and on the planet. Simply dare to be the spiritual being here on Earth that you already are in Heaven.
